Latest Updates from Our Project:

The Panic Table Interview
3 months ago – Tue, Nov 26, 2024 at 11:12:31 AM

Hey folks,

A quick update to say I'll be going live on The Panic Table Youtube on Friday night 2pm PST / 5pm EST / 10pm GMT, talking about The Dose Makes The Poison (what else?). Yes, Black Friday, the greatest and most rewarding of days.

I've really been enjoying The Panic Table's run of Mothership Month creator interviews, offering insights and a better understanding on the craft of making RPGs, but don't worry, you'll get none of that from me! Please tune in anyway, though.

Also, If I can get my space-ducks in a row I might even have a cool announcement that will affect all backers of tiers with digital stretch goals.

Cheers,
Andrew

Editing! Zine cover upgrade!
3 months ago – Sun, Nov 24, 2024 at 12:40:51 PM

Hello Backerkit crew,

‘Sup? Here’s a wee bulletin on what’s been happening in the world of The Dose Makes The Poison as we approach week 3 of the campaign.

Here are a couple of things that I should probably have heralded as dramatic stretch goals / achievements, but I wasn’t organised enough to build into my campaign:

Editing update: we’ve now got DG Chapman onboard as editor. He’s already been a great help with developmental editing so having a trusted pair of eyes over the final output will help ensure we deliver a quality product. He wrote The Haunting of Ypsilon 14, so knows his way around a Mothership module. Check out The Graverobbers Guide for more.

Product update: We’ve now raised enough cash to be able to put anti-scuff matt lamination on the zines. This will ensure they’ll remain usable and harder wearing at your gaming table, as well as just looking cool.

We’re now about half way towards our 10K stretch goal: an in game TV ad for Hope’s Serum. As is tradition in crowdfunding, these weeks are the quiet weeks, so if you know someone who would like a Bioshock infused game of Mothership, send them our Backerkit page along with some kind of emotional blackmail that will encourage them to pledge. Let’s vault up and over that 10K wall… together [sincere smile, capitalist eye glint].

Cheers,
Andrew

A stretch goal
3 months ago – Fri, Nov 15, 2024 at 06:50:20 AM

As Thom Yorke once sang on The Tourist, the final track from the seminal 1997 release OK Computer by the Oxford, UK band Radiohead: "Hey man, slow down."

That was a whirlwind couple of days. All the MoshMo patch hunters were out in force, with the end result being that we are sitting at just short of 600 backers and just shy of 400% funded. Which is, to be frank, wild.

Things will quiet down a bit now that we’re out of the first 48 hours, so to keep things interesting, we’re going to add another stretch goal.

Hope’s Serum TV ad
If we make it to £10K — can’t actually believe I’m writing that — we’re going to create the full Hope’s Serum TV ad for you to use in-game. You can see a taster of this on the monitor in our trailer; check it out here:

This should be:

a) really cool
b) fun to show to your game group
c) an easy shortcut to teeing up the retro faux-jolly branding of creepy ol’ Hope’s Pharma.

We’re already working on a properly recorded audio version of the ad (the one used in the trailer was just recorded to my phone), so this will be a nice additional upgrade. It will be available to all backers with digital stretch goals as part of their pledge tier.

If we make it beyond £10K we’ve got one more stretchy stretcher planned which we hope will expand the zine even further — but I’ll sit on that for the time being.

In other news, our brilliant designer Norgad’s own Mothership module, Dead Weight, has just been released on his Itch store. If you like the sound of hull-breaching cadaver projectiles (and who doesn’t?), check it out. It looks cool as heck.

Oh, and (call the smooth segue police) speaking of Hull Breach, Mothership royalty Ian Yusem said of The Dose Makes the Poison: “Absolutely nails the Bioshock atmosphere. If they hadn't mentioned it as an explicit inspiration, I'd have picked it up anyway.” Beyond chuffed to get a bit of hype from the fellow who has a new 'reverse murder mystery' Shadow of Doubt released as part of the Mothership Month supply drops.

That's it, I'm done.

Erm, funded. Really, really funded!
3 months ago – Wed, Nov 13, 2024 at 06:01:31 AM

Well, blimey.

Suffice to say I'm pretty blown away with the last (not even) 24 hours of Mothership Month activity.

The Dose Makes The Poison funded in under an hour and forty minutes - 1hr 39 to be exact.

We hit our first stretch goal - additional audio files to use in game - about 3-4 hours after launch.

I went to bed, and sometime over night we rolled on through our second stretch goal, backgrounds and plot hooks on Hope's Pharma and their nasty corporate rivals The Suckler Family and Health Universal.

I woke up stupidly early at about 4:30am and was just in time to see that all 21 projects had funded, which means all physical backers get an additional bookmark gift from us too.

That all happened rather fast, and now I'm a bit like, what? We're now sitting at about 225% funded, which is pretty nutso.

We do have more stretch goals in the pipeline, so will let you know about those as soon as I a) confirm a few details and b) get an updated image asset for the page.

So I guess this mailer is just a 'watch this space' really.

And also to say a massive thank you to you for backing this project. To have all these cool, creative things being supported for Mothership Month genuinely restores my faith in humanity, and this is coming from someone who last smiled in 2018, and even that might've just been wind.

Cheers all.

48 Hours Till Launch! Early Incentives, stretch goals, burning questions.
3 months ago – Sun, Nov 10, 2024 at 02:42:09 PM

48 Hours To Go!

Until the Backerkit campaign for The Dose Makes The Poison goes live. Less than 48 hours really, yikes!

Early Backer Incentives!

If you back within the first 48 hours of the campaign at any physical (print) tier, you will get a FREE Hope’s Serum patch, a mock up of which can be seen below. Iron it onto a lab coat / some scrubs / a spare paramedic’s uniform and wear at your gaming table for complete immersion.

Early backers are super important to help us build momentum. That way, we raise more funds, unlock stretch goals and can offer even more as part of the whole package. Tuesday Knight Games is also offering amazing bonuses as more projects fund, so basically, everybody wins. Trust me, we’re all going to win.

Stretch Goals!

…Or Achievements as they like to call them over at Backerkit Ranch. Once we hit our funding target, we’ll look to enhance the project further as we reach higher levels of funding. We’re not getting ahead of ourselves and listing out tons of these, but two goals we’d love to hit are:

More Audio Files - a digital suite of professionally acted voice memos to be discovered in game, giving clues to the whole messy affair that’s unravelled on on station HS-14. I’ll record these onto my 8 track cassette machine for authentic cassette-futurism hiss. Here is yon multitrack, with a new cassette warmed and ready:

More pages - background on Hope’s Pharma Inc., and the company’s two arch rivals, Health Universal and Suckler Family Pharma. Plot hooks, tensions, rumours, bounties and key NPCs that will enable you to add more retro medical madness into your wide Mothership campaigns!

So, if you want to, please back early. And if you know anyone else that might like a Bioshock-styled module for Mothership, have them follow on our teaser page linked here.

Right, that’s it, apart from you need to answer the burning question in the poll below, that you can find on our Launch Party page. Just do it, I don’t make the rules.

See you on launch day, MoShmigos.
