The Dose Makes The Poison: a module for Mothership RPG

Created by And Tomorrow Games

A missing scientist. An art deco pharmaceutical conference centre, now used for... other things. Massive bounties. Zero chance things will go wrong. (3 truths 1 lie.)

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Final call! 3 hours to go!
2 months ago – Tue, Dec 10, 2024 at 07:13:01 AM

The finish line is in sight!

There are less than 3 hours left in the official Mothership Month 2024 campaign. Once that finishes, the Backer Train begins: as long as a person backs any Mothership Month project within the 10 minute countdown window, the Backer Train continues.

Let's see if we can run until Xmas Eve! Really, what I want/need is a lie-down with a towel over my eyes. But every upgraded pledge or new pledge helps the train, and there are still some amazing creators looking to hit stretch goal targets (including a newly announced Wages of Sin one), so go have a look at all the projects. I've backed them all (I know I know), and I want everything they can throw at me!

Or if, say, you fancy going from a pdf to a print copy of The Dose Makes The Poison, you can do that too and become part of the train. Choo choo.

A few wee things:

The Panic Table Interview: The aforementioned interview never happened; we just couldn't get schedules or Pax U internet to play nice. Next time!

Polls: I've been running a goofy Choose Your Own Adventure-style poll at the bottom of these updates. Below concludes this epic tale, and you folks have opted to go willingly into Hope Serum's medical testing unit! I mean, it's probably not the choice I would have made, but maybe it will all work out.

Thank you: Thank you. And again, thank you.

Thank you,
Andrew

The final 48 hours approaches!
3 months ago – Sat, Dec 07, 2024 at 08:30:33 AM

Hello backers,

We’re almost into the final 48 HOURS of Mothership Month.

Again, thank you to everyone who’s backed this zine. This project is probably the best thing to happen to me all year - and this is a year where we moved into a new house and we got a dog (don’t tell the dog).

I want to give another shout out my designer and illustrator Norgad, who has gone above and beyond to help make my campaign page look halfway decent, as well as all the work already done on design and layout of the zine itself. I can’t recommend him highly enough. We have a 13 hour time difference and he’s remained very patient while I whimsically message things like ‘I’m thinking about a black UV print layer’ at 1am his time. Be sure to check out his module Dead Weight, I think it’s one of the most innovative Mothership modules of the year.

The Dose Makes The Poison: upgrades and add-ons.

If you’ve already backed but want to upgrade your pledge, now is the time to do it. If you’re on the £6 PDF-only tier, hopping up to the £8 tier gets you access to all digital stretch goals, including a new pamphlet module, audio, video, and more. If you’re a physical backer, there are add-ons such as additional copies (if you want to save on shipping with a friend) and the print version of the new pamphlet module, which you can bolt onto your order.

A summary of all unlocked content:

  • FREE Bonus PDF Pamphlet Module – Timed Release: A high-stakes, against-the-clock one-shot module inspired by Squid Game, The Running Man, and In Time. Available for all digital stretch goal tiers and higher, with a print add-on option for physical tiers.

  • Digital Audio Files: Immersive in-game voice notes and audio clues, recorded on analogue 8-track to deliver authentic cassette-futurism tape hiss. For all digital stretch goal tiers and higher.

  • Hope’s Serum TV Ad: A fully produced in-game video ad to heighten the atmospheric flavor of your campaign. For all digital stretch goal tiers and higher.

  • Expanded Page Count: The zine now boasts 16 pages (up from 12), featuring:
  • Expanded background on Hope’s Pharma Inc.
  • Background on rivals: The Suckler Family and Health Universal.
  • New plot hooks and bounties for integrating more sinister pharma into your games.

  • Enhanced Editing: DG Chapman is onboard not just for developmental editing but also for polishing the final draft to ensure the tightest script possible.

  • Improved Zine Cover: Upgraded to matt anti-scuff lamination for added durability.

  • FREE Bonus Bookmark: Celebrating all Mothership Month projects hitting their funding goals within 24 hours. Available for all print tiers.

That’s it. Thanks again for everything and let’s make the final hours of Mothership Month a doozy for all 21 projects!

10K goals, free game jam module, The Panic Table Interview
3 months ago – Thu, Dec 05, 2024 at 03:17:08 AM

Hey folks,

I’m going to be out of action from now till Sunday but wanted to get a small update out before then. Hence, I’m writing this in a rush on public transport, so expect even more typos than usual.

Stretch Goals
TDMTP unlocked the £10K stretch goal on Tuesday by hitting exactly £10K:

Madness! This means we’re making the full TV ad in-game for Hope’s Serum, which is going to be sweet as!

Additional Stretch Goals
I’ve decided not to push things further with additional stretch goals. I want to keep timings on track and avoid falling victim to scope creep. We’re up to 16 pages of module now so I’ve quite a bit of writing to do before Christmas gets in the way.

Free Game Jam Module

As part of the Mothership Game Jam, Chris Air has brought together all of us first-time Mothership creators to contribute to a cool new free module: Raider Bounty of Gilgamesh VII. It’s really awesome! Go get it on Itch now and check out the other game jam content—it finishes today!

Panic Table Interview

I’ll be doing a rescheduled interview on The Panic Table, as long as Cameron can get a decent signal somewhere at PAX U! I think timings will be 11 AM PST / 2 PM EST / 7 PM GMT, but there’s a chance we might be recording then to broadcast later, depending on the signal. Will keep you posted.

Cheers!

This is the last time we'll mention it
3 months ago – Mon, Dec 02, 2024 at 09:38:03 AM

A quick note: if you want to grab a print add-on of our new bonus pamphlet Timed Release for a knock down price, you have until midnight (PST) to do so.

It's currently £3 for the rest of Cyber Monday, but will be £5 from tomorrow onwards. Every little helps and all that!

The pdf version will be added to all tiers with digital stretch goals and above from now till the end of the campaign.

We're now only £302 off hitting our 10K stretch goal, which is amazing!

About Timed Release:

Timed Release is an against-the-clock one-shot module for fans of Squid Game, The Running Man and, eh, In Time (w/ Justin Timberlake), designed to be completed in a single game session with 3 players.

You’re suddenly awake: in a stark white room on a cold med slab, still in your familiar prison scrubs. On your wrist is a digital bracelet, the display reads: CLOC: 00:30. Through blurry eyes you watch it begin to count down: 00:30, 00:29, 00:28. This can’t be good.

The Suckler Family is testing their new 'Commuted Life Occurrence Controller'. Designed to ‘incentivise’ prisoners in hard-labour incarceration and to prevent escapees, CLOC is a wrist timer which must be replenished at regular intervals, via COLCin stations or from one CLOC wrist unit to another. If the clock drops below zero the prisoner dies, painfully.

Cheers!

BLACK FRIDAY: FREE PAMPHLET
3 months ago – Fri, Nov 29, 2024 at 08:51:07 AM

It's Black Friday! And have we got a deal for you.

Wait, it's not a deal, it's FREE.

As a special again-probably-should've-been-a-stretch-goal thing, and as a general thank you for making this project go better than we could ever imagined, I've added in Timed Release, a new pdf pamphlet module for all tiers with digital stretch goals and higher (that's the £8 tier and above).

So you get a free pamphlet! You get a free pamphlet! I feel like Oprah.

But that's not all. For physical tier backers, we've added a printed option Add-on at a special discounted price for Black Friday thru Cyber-Monday. So if you grab the pamphlet (add it to your existing pledge) over Black Friday you'll get it for £3 instead of £5, a stunning saving of 40%!!! Gotta love this sales chat.

More on Timed Release below, after these important bulletins:

- Tonight's scheduled interview for The Panic Table has been postponed due to technical difficulties, to be rescheduled at a later date.

- We've £887 to go till we hit our 10K stretch goal for the In-game ad for Hope's Serum. If only (!) 296 of you buy our pamphlet Add-on we'll smash that target by the end of Cyber-Monday.
